Caring for locals for over 50 years
Resthaven on Quarry joined Apollo Care’s alliance of not-for-profit communities a year ago, and together, we’re working hard to support our community to evolve and thrive, while preserving what makes it so special to Mackay.
Resthaven has stayed proudly local. Our community is guided by a Board, with local representatives, that reflects the unique needs of this region. Resthaven’s former Director and Clinical and Operations Manager, Mary Anne Edwards, is a member of this Board, continuing her close and much valued connection with our community.
Our Lifestyle Program includes lots of opportunities for residents to continue to enjoy community connections, from our annual resident entries in the Mackay Show, to our regular outings in and around the local area – especially the much-loved trips to Byrnes Pies!
Our guiding principle is locals first, and we value the role local businesses play in regional communities like ours. We use a range of local suppliers for goods and services, including local butchers, bakers, produce stores and contractors.
We continue to foster the close ties Resthaven has with local Catholic, Anglican, Uniting and Lutheran Churches that offer residents a range of in-community services, one-on-one communion and pastoral support.
We regularly host students from CQU for clinical placements and local high schools for work placements to help give them a head start in a career with lots of opportunities. At the same time, this helps us build a permanent workforce with dedicated staff from the local community.
At the heart of the Resthaven on Quarry community are some incredible individuals – a group of volunteers who dedicate their time, energy and compassion to enhancing the lives of residents. Among them is Maryanne Edwards’ husband, Alan who is our wonderful bus driver, and Board member, Gail Volkers, who delights residents with her regular singing performances.
As a member of the Apollo Care Alliance, Resthaven’s exceptional history of service to the people of Mackay is honoured and protected for generations to come.
