Meet Assistant in Nursing, Wendy
Wendy has been a much-loved member of the Resthaven on Quarry team for over 13 years, finding joy in her day-to-day interactions with the residents. She is part of a dedicated team who provide important hands-on, personalised care and support to residents to maintain their wellbeing and independence.
What is the favourite part of your day?
When I get the chance to connect with the individuals who call Resthaven home and hear their life stories. I’m in awe of how they laugh and embrace life.
It’s a small world in Mackay. We’re all connected to each other and our history. I had a special moment recently with one of the ladies here who taught my mum how to sew many years ago. I was also chatting to another resident who was a farmer, and we worked out my dad had built the water channels on their land. I like to honour the connections and the stories in the way I show care.
What do you see as the impact of your role?
Being able to care for residents whenever they need it is what I love. It’s important to listen, show kindness and be there for them. For many, we become an extended part of their family.
How does technology help you deliver better care?
CareKeeper holds all the updated information about each resident’s care needs, and I have it right in the palm of my hand. It also provides us anything else we need to know about a resident – their story, their lifestyle preferences and how they like to spend their day. And, importantly, it alerts us when something has changed.
At Resthaven, residents are at the heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on getting to know and understand individual residents, and supporting them to maintain their interests, routines and connections to the people and places they love. We use innovation to help us deliver personalised, meaningful care.
